Meet Our Teacher
CARLOS G. LEE
Carlos Gustavo Lee, a Parsons School of Design graduate, proudly identifies himself as a multicultural artist and educator. Born in Argentina to Korean parents, Lee’s upbringing in Buenos Aires was marked by a vibrant tapestry of cultural influences. He seamlessly navigated between languages, learning Korean from his parents, English at an international school, and Spanish through daily interactions with friends and neighbors. His diverse background serves as a foundation for his artistic expression and educational endeavors.
Coming from a family of artists, creativity runs deep in Carlos’s blood. His father, a fashion designer, and his mother, skilled in arts and crafts, instilled in him a passion for artistic expression from an early age. His grandfather who lived in Japan was also a talented writer, and his grandmother, a devoted pianist, further inspired his love for the arts. Carlos found his musical calling with the bandoneon, the quintessential instrument of tango. He loves to play and continues his studies daily.
Carlos graduated high school in Buenos Aires and embarked on a journey to New York City, where he attended Parsons School of Design under a generous scholarship. Parsons is a “prestigious institution that was ranked as the top art and design school in the QS World University Rankings and kept that title for multiple years in a row.”
Over two decades in the city that never sleeps, he found himself surrounded by a diverse community of jazz musicians, graffiti artists, writers, philosophers, actors, dancers, and creatives of all stripes. Carlos worked on many different projects including portraits, murals, editorial illustrations, digital painting, music videos, storyboards, T-shirts, posters and more.
In New York, Carlos met his wife, a Japanese native, and together with their little daughters, they ventured to Japan to start a new chapter of their lives. For the past four years, Carlos has lived in Tokyo, immersing himself in its culture and traditions. He soon started working at Berlitz English, where he has taught over 6000+ lessons with top performance scores. Carlos realized his true passion lies in teaching.
Carlos finds teaching incredibly rewarding. He compares it to nurturing a plant, where patience and care lead to growth. Seeing his students improve is like watching a plant blossom—it fills him with joy and satisfaction. For him, helping people learn and develop their skills is the most fulfilling aspect of his work.
Fueled by his love for creativity and education, Carlos is now fulfilling his dream of opening Union Square Studio, where he aims to inspire and nurture the next generation of artists. With his multicultural background, wealth of experiences, and dedication, Carlos continues to make his mark on the world of art.
